Flow Verification and Calibration Services for Port Facility

During the flow verification, we ensure that the flow sensor is installed in the flow stream at a location where there is no disruption of steady flow by upstream or downstream blockage. Sensor height is adjusted to achieve optimal result.

Recently, ISME Technical Team conducted a replacement and verification service for the pH sensors and the ultrasonic flow meter at a port in Perak. The verification service is to ensure the flow meter and pH meters are working under optimal operating conditions and installation method. Regular instrument verification with consistent intervals and record keeping will ensure that flow discharge measurements are always accurate and reliable.

Requirements

  • Instrument: 1 x UOL ultrasonic flow meter, 2 x pH meters
  • Medium: Industry discharge effluent
  • Installation configurations:
    • Ultrasonic flow meter, rectangular weir, 50cm
    • Panel mounted pH Meters
  • Services:
    • To check, replace (flow converter) and verify the ultrasonic flow meter
    • To ensure the ultrasonic flow meter is measuring accurately under optimal operating conditions and installation method
    • To check, replace and calibrate the pH meters and sensors

Solutions

  • Ultrasonic flow meter:
    • During the first verification, the measured level is not indicated correctly, and is constantly reading the same value despite the change of measured level.
    • After several power resets, it is also observed that the configuration setup and settings of the flow convertor is corrupted.
    • Upon visual inspection, it is observed that the LCD display has a dark ring / spot that affects the reading of the measured value on the screen.
    • The flow convertor was replace, and settings are configured according to the rectangular width size, installation height and the water level are measured.
  • pH meter and sensor
    • The meter and sensors’ physical conditions are inspected.
    • pH sensors are replaced because they are consumables that will degrade over time, especially in demanding environments for industrial applications.
    • pH 4, pH 7 and pH 9 buffer solutions are used to perform the calibration.
    • After the calibration is done, all values are re-compared against the buffer solution.
  • The findings, recommendations and service details are elaborated in details and documented in the I-SYSTEM service reports for auditing and documentation purposes.
  • The verification lasts for one (1) year.
