Recently, Team ISME conducted a flow verification service at an industrial waste management facility in Negeri Sembilan. Regular verification is a preventive measure to make sure that the flow meters are measuring accurately. Consistent documentation with tracability and auditing are important steps to meeting the regulatory requirements or standards set forth by the DOE and other regulatory bodies.
Requirements
- Instrument: 2 x electromagnetic flowmeter
- Medium: Industrial wastewater
- Pipe size: 1 1/2” pipe size
- Wall thickness: 3-4 mm
- To ensure the flow meters are measuring accurately under optimal operating conditions and installation method
- To ensure the flow instrument’s error variation is within +-5%
Solutions
- A point of measurement was chosen on the pipeline. The point is measured with our test equipment.
- The reading of the flow rate or the totalizer is compared. For the case of totalizer, initial and final totalizer are recorded. The differences are measured and compared with our test equipment.
- The verification produces results that are between 0.7-1.2% deviation from the calibrated portable ultrasonic flow meter.
- Tested flow meters were found to perform satisfactorily for the expected flow range.
- Leakage is suspected at the pipe coupler. Presence of bubbles due to leakage will cause inaccuracy in flow reading.
- The findings and recommendations are elaborated in details and documented in the I-SYSTEM service reports for auditing and documentation purposes.
- The verification lasts for one (1) year.
