Based on analysis of effluent characteristics of the utility’s facility, the effluent discharged from the raw effluent point was found within the Standard B Limit of Environmental Quality (Industrial Effluents) Regulations except for Total Suspended Solid (TSS) and Iron.
The 190m3/day capacity plant upgrade proposed by client includes oily water separator and physical chemical treatment process via coagulation/flocculation and filtration processes to ensure the effluent could be safely discharged to the environment.
Requirements
- IETS control monitoring system that overlooks the treatment process and can be operated in auto or manual mode
- Treatment of the industrial effluent or mixed effluent generated within the premises is in strict compliance with the specifications as specified under Standard B Fifth Schedule Sub-regulations 11(1), 11(2), 11(3), Environmental Quality (Industrial Effluent) Regulations 2009.
Solutions
- System Architecture:
- OMRON PLC act as the heart of the entire control system, running the pump sequence and all interlocking in the process system.
- 10″ HMI functions as a gateway to the PLC memory, allowing user to set system setpoints without relying on hard-coded preset values.
- 10″ HMI also comes with a webserver that is able to serve the HMI display as a webpage to users accessing the system using the internet from within/outside the plant facility.
- All network signals to the outside world is facilitated by the REMOX 4G router that routes the proper request from the outside world to the HMI or PLC as needed.
- OMRON PLC also utilizes Modbus RTU modules to expand its I/O capability beyond the original specifications of the PLC.
- REMOX digital input and analog input modules are used to expand the PLC system’s digital input types and 4-20mA analog input channels.
- REMOX modules communicate with the PLC using RS-485 cable on Modbus RTU protocol.
- System to run on auto mode during normal service, including chemical dosing of:
- Hydrochloric acid (HCl) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) used for pH adjustment to facilitate ideal pH range for coagulation process
- Poly aluminium chloride (PAC) used as coagulant to extract and clump together contaminants, colloidal and suspended matter to form as floc
- Polymer to help thicken the sludge before dewatering by filter press machine
- System to be operated on manual mode to allow:
- Replacement or backwash of cartridge filter and media in the filtration and absorption system
- Filter press cake discharge refers to the removal of solid material (the filter cake) from a filter press
- Maintenance of static mixer and pumps
- To fulfil the monitoring needs of the plant, the following instruments are supplied as well:
- Suspended solids analyzer
- pH meter & sensor
- Electromagnetic flow meter
- Pressure transmitter
- Pressure gauge
- Temperature transmitter
- Level ball float
- Pneumatic butterfly valve
- Testing and commissioning to ensure that the control panel and instrumentation are functioning according to the clients’ requirements
