Paddle wheel flow meter uses the mechanical energy of liquid to rotate a paddle wheel in the flow stream. The rate of spin will be proportional to the velocity of the flow. It is suitable for measuring clean and low viscosity liquid. It is commonly used for industrial applications ie water distribution, water treatment, filtration, chemical batching or dispensing, process control, etc.
Paddle wheel flow meters are economical, simple to install and operate. It offers relatively wide flow range and wide flow range. However, it is sensitive to liquid impurities, such as air bubbles that can cause the rotor to stall or particles that can cause clogging. Paddle wheel flow meter is not suitable for high-viscosity liquids, as the high viscosity can make it difficult for the rotor to spin freely.
Features:
- Clean liquid with no particles
- A minimum run of straight pipe before and after the sensor
- Inaccuracy can occur if the pipe is not full or when air bubbles is present
- Moving parts can degrade with time and usage
- Measurement for :
- Instantaneous flow (flow per single pulse × amount of pulses ÷ time)
- Totalizer flow (running total of how much liquid has passed by the sensor within a given time)
